Understanding mobile car detailing prices can be confusing. There's a huge range — from the £10 hand car wash to the £1,000+ full correction and coating package. So what should you actually expect to pay, and what determines the price?

Here's an honest breakdown of mobile car detailing costs across the UK in 2026.

    Typical Price Ranges

    Maintenance Wash / Mini Valet

    £30–£60 for a standard car

This is your regular upkeep service. It typically includes an exterior wash (often using the snow foam and two-bucket method), wheel cleaning, tyre dressing, and a basic interior wipe-down and vacuum. Perfect for keeping a well-maintained car looking fresh between deeper cleans.

    Full Valet

    £80–£150 for a standard car

A comprehensive inside-and-out clean. Expect thorough exterior washing and drying, wheel and arch cleaning, interior vacuuming including all crevices, dashboard and trim cleaning, glass cleaning inside and out, and often a wax or sealant application. This is what most people think of when they book a "proper valet."

    Enhancement Detail

    £150–£350 for a standard car

This steps up into detailing territory. On top of everything in a full valet, you'll get a single-stage machine polish to remove light swirl marks and improve gloss, along with a more durable paint sealant or spray coating. The interior will receive more attention too — leather conditioning, fabric treatment, and detailed cleaning of vents, seams, and controls.

Full Detail / Correction & Coating

    £400–£1,500+ for a standard car

The premium tier. This includes multi-stage paint correction (removing scratches, swirls, water spots, and oxidation), thorough decontamination, and professional ceramic coating application. Interior work at this level is equally thorough. This is a full reset for your vehicle — it'll look better than it has in years, possibly better than when you bought it.

    What Affects the Price?

    Vehicle Size

A MINI Cooper and a Range Rover Sport are very different propositions. Larger vehicles have significantly more surface area to wash, polish, and coat — which means more product and more time. Most detailers have pricing tiers based on vehicle size, typically: small, medium, large, and extra-large/van.

    Vehicle Condition

A car that's been regularly maintained is quicker and easier to work on than one that's been neglected. Heavy interior soiling, pet hair, ingrained stains, caked-on brake dust, heavy swirl marks, and tree sap all add time and effort to the job.

Some detailers charge a flat rate regardless of condition; others (including DKT) assess each vehicle individually and price according to the actual work required. This is fairer for customers with well-maintained cars who shouldn't be subsidising heavily soiled vehicles.

    Products Used

Professional-grade products cost significantly more than consumer alternatives, but they deliver better results and last longer. A detailer using SONAX professional products, for example, is working with some of the best formulations available — and that quality is reflected in both the finish and the price.

    Time and Expertise

A full paint correction can take 8–12 hours of focused work. The skill required to safely machine polish a vehicle without burning through the clear coat takes years to develop. When you're paying for a premium detail, you're paying for that expertise as much as the products.

Mobile vs Fixed Location: Price Difference?

Interestingly, mobile detailing is often comparable in price to studio-based services — and sometimes cheaper. Mobile operators have lower overheads (no workshop rent, rates, or utility bills), and those savings can be passed on to customers.

The trade-off is that mobile detailers work in less controlled environments, but an experienced mobile operator knows how to manage this effectively. At DKT, we work under gazebos when needed and plan our schedule around weather conditions to ensure consistent results.

    Getting Value for Money

The best way to get value is to match the service level to your needs:

    • If your car is regularly maintained and just needs freshening up, a maintenance wash or mini valet is all you need — don't overpay for services your car doesn't require.
    • If you're preparing a car for sale, a full valet or enhancement detail can significantly improve its presentation and perceived value.
    • If you want long-term protection that reduces ongoing maintenance effort and cost, investing in a ceramic coating package pays for itself over time through easier cleaning and preserved paintwork condition.
